The Neamt Monastery is also called "Jerusalem of Romanian Orthodoxy". The first documentary attestation dates from the fifteenth century, but the monastic activity in the area appeared long before. The settlement impresses through architecture, but also through the rich museum collections, icons and other objects of special historical, artistic and religious value. The monastery also owns the oldest monastery library in the country, with over 18,000 volumes.
