The Neamt Fortress is located on the Peak Hill, in the city of Târgu Neamț. The fortress was built at the end of the 14th century by Peter I, was fortified in the 15th century by Stephen the Great and destroyed in the 18th century (1718) by the order of the ruler Mihai Racoviță. It is one of the most well-fortified citadel of Moldova from the medieval period. The Cetatea Neamț Museum tries to recreate the atmosphere of the past by reconstructing rooms and by characters typical of the medieval period. The objective is one of the most important attractions of Neamț County.
